Powered with ERA5 versus ERA5T for July 2024
To evaluate the impact of discrepancies between ERA5 and ERA5T on wind industry applications, Vortex conducted a validation study involving 490 sites. These locations are representative of wind energy projects and were analyzed using Vortex’s standard SERIES hourly product at a 3 km resolution. The datasets were downscaled using both ERA5 and ERA5T for July 2024, which was the only complete month of finalized ERA5 data available at the time of analysis. This study aims to determine whether differences in the reanalysis datasets significantly affect the key metrics important for wind energy applications after WRF downscaling.
