Regional Wind Resource Maps

Vortex MAPS offers regional coverage with simulated wind data, including long-term mean wind, temperature, and air density. The datasets are optimized for large-scale wind resource assessment, enabling comparison between multiple regions and identification of areas with the highest potential for development.

It is especially suitable for:

Early-stage prospecting of onshore and offshore sites

Screening large regions for wind energy potential

Informing preliminary wind farm layouts and feasibility studies

When to Use MAPS

Vortex MAPS is ideal when exploring large unknown regions, well before measurements or mast campaigns are available. It provides an informed foundation for feasibility studies, resource screening, and preliminary site selection, helping teams prioritize areas for detailed wind measurements and further technical analysis.

Technical Details

Areas at any region worldwide, both onshore and offshore.
Vortex MAPS can be simulated at either 3 km or 1 km spatial resolution.
Areas of up to 400,000 km² for Vortex MAPS simulated at a 3 km spatial resolution, and up to 40,000 km² for those at a 1 km resolution.
Areas are fully selectable in size and location.
Heights included range from 50 m to 300 m.
Variables included are long-term mean wind, temperature, and air density.
Exportable to Google Earth KML or ESRI grid formats.
